Viking knitting and real knitting — 5 Comments

  1. Ohhhhh…you present many tempting options…and I’m pretty decent at I-cord….I want to go play…
But I’m going to bed. Pleasant dreams!

  2. Hi, Lately, I was at an Icelandic festival that had an authentic Viking Village. One of the ladies was doing something called “naulling” or “nulling”(not sure of the spelling). It is like knitting but uses a large wooden needle with a hole in the bottom for a single string of yarn. It is knitting with a the needle thru loops. Have you heard of this? I would like to try this this but have no patterns. Thank you.

    • Wow, that must have been a lot of fun!!
See if the naalbinding I mentioned in my January post about Viking knitting looks like it’s the same thing. I don’t know how the word is pronounced, or if the word is shortened sometimes… I included some links to more information; perhaps they will be more enlightening!

  3. Wow! This is exactly what I was looking for – something new and interesting to add to what I already make I have been making jewelry and stuff since about 1985 and have been increasing my designs to have more variety, thanks to people like you! I am soooo happy (and lucky!) to have “stumbled” across your page, help, and work. You do beautiful work, and your instruction is pretty clear. Thank you for sharing it all with us.
